Whilst the focus is often on the person with MND, we recognise that you might need extra support and information to help you through this time. The aim of this Information Toolkit is to give family carers a single location to find information or to direct them to resources designed to help address their needs.
Understanding motor neurone disease (MND) is an important first step when receiving a diagnosis.
Your MND Advisor and Support Coordinator has a wealth of information available to share with you, and there are other useful contacts as well.
Every member of the family will respond to the diagnosis of MND differently.
A diagnosis of MND can bring up worries and fears, and it can help to talk about these, so they don’t start to feel impossible to deal with.
There are a number of ways we can support you at this time, and programs we can connect you to for funding support as well.
Caring for a loved one with a life limiting illness can create a range of financial, legal and work issues that you may not have had to manage before.
Caring for someone 24 hours a day, seven days a week can be exhausting. It’s completely normal to need regular breaks from caring, including overnight breaks.
Taking care of yourself is an important aspect of caring; ask support from your family and friends who are usually very willing to support you.
Everyone grieves differently and there are no rules. No two people are the same, but there is support available to help you adjust.
