Support

Support groups

MND Victoria offers a range of support group programs to support people with MND and their carers, family members and friends.

Programs take on a variety of forms and offer participants the opportunity to meet and share experiences with others in a similar situation, give and receive strategies and tips, learn about living well with MND and receive support for loss and grief.  The length and format of the groups varies based on the needs of the group participants.

MND Exchange

Sharing Knowledge and Expertise to Face Everyday Challenges

These topic-focused sessions offer an opportunity for people living with MND and their families to learn from experts in MND, including professionals and others with lived experience, and develop knowledge and strategies in response to common challenges.

Each group runs for approximately 1 hour (may be longer for in-person sessions), once a month, via Zoom or in person. Each month will have a different topic focus.

MND Relate

Connected and Supported

These facilitated peer-support groups provide a relaxed opportunity for peer connection and to share experiences amongst people living with MND and their carers.

2025 sessions will be held quarterly, and will be online. All are welcome.

There are also some in-person locations (region-specific) - please speak with your MND Advisor or the Education team, if you are interested in a region-specific in-person group.

MND Relate - Slow Progressing Group

The group is open to anyone living with PLS, Kennedy’s disease or who have had MND for over 5 years, and/or their carers or support person. It provides an opportunity to make connections, ask questions and share experiences and information about living with a slower progressing condition.

Meetings are hosted every 3 months over Zoom. Please contact your MND Advisor/Support Coordinator to discuss this further or email Carmela at cquimbo@mnd.org.au

For more information or to join one of our MND Exchange sessions or MND Relate Groups 2025, please contact us at info@mnd.org.au or call us on 1800 777 175 or register on our events page.

Support for young carers

MND National Youth Hub is operated by MND NSW and provides information, support services and tools for young carers aged 5 to 24 years old.

The National Youth Hub is a space for young carers to chat, share, and connect about their experiences with providing care for someone with motor neurone disease. Young carers play a big part in the journey of someone diagnosed with MND, and they need a robust support network.

For more information on the National Youth Hub, please contact us at info@mnd.org.au or call us on 1800 777 175.

You can visit MND New South Wales website for additional information.
