Advances in genetic testing and emerging treatments are increasing the importance of genetic counselling and testing in MND care. However, access to public genetic services in Victoria is limited, with long wait times and strict eligibility criteria. This means many people living with MND and their families face delays in getting important information about treatment options, family risk, and research opportunities.

In response, MND Victoria has partnered with Monash Genetics to deliver a 12-month dedicated pilot MND Genetic Counselling Service, designed to provide timely and equitable access to specialist genetic support for people with MND and their families.
