The MND Charity Superball is back and raising funds to establish a Genetic Counselling Service

At MND Victoria, we are committed to improving care and support for individuals and families impacted by motor neurone disease.
Up to 15% of MND is ‘familial’, which means there is or has been more than one MND-affected person in a family. Some reasons families will seek genetic testing are:
- to identify their risk of developing the disease
- to inform reproductive decisions
- to identify individuals eligible for specific treatments.
Genetic testing is currently available in Australia and may be funded through Medicare.
Genetic counselling plays an important role in helping individuals decide whether to proceed with testing. Yet, there are often challenges in families accessing a timely or cost-effective service.
To help alleviate these difficulties, MND Victoria is proud to announce that we are looking to set up a specialised MND Genetic Counselling Program in 2026.

To kickstart funding for this essential service, we are thrilled to announce that the long-standing Community Fundraiser—the MND Charity Superball—has come on board to support the launch of the Genetic Counselling Program.
The MND Charity Superball event has raised over $1.1 million for MND research over the past 17 years. This year the MND Superball’s focus turns to care, with 100% of funds raised being directed towards this new program.
MND Superball XVIII Event Details
📅 Date: Saturday 14 June 2025
⏰ Time: 7:30pm sharp (pre-event cash bar open from 7pm)
👗 Dress: Cocktail
🎟️ Cost: $210 per person (includes dinner, drinks, entertainment + $70 tax deductible donation)
📍 Venue: The Pullman on the Park, Grand Ballroom. 65 Queens Road, Albert Park, VIC
🚗 Note: Parking is available on the night at the Pullman & Mercure for $20 if needed.
