MND Victoria welcome the latest announcement from the Australian Federal Government, which fast tracks the release of Assistive Technology and Home Modification (AT-HM) funding for people diagnosed with MND.

Previous Support at Home Program changes for people with MND 

In June 2026, the Australian Government amended the Aged Care Act to recognise the specific nature of MND, which meant people diagnosed with MND would be given urgent priority for the release of their Support at Home Program package. This new priority pathway means people with MND now have access to a funding package within 30 days. 

Before this, people with MND could wait up to 11 months, depending upon the priority level granted. 

MND Australia, MND Victoria, and the other state associations welcomed this change, but identified that this priority was not applied to AT-HM funding.  

AT-HM funding is separate from the core Support at Home package funding. 

Further conversations with Ministers Mark Butler and Sam Rae highlighted this discrepency and the need to extend the urgent prioritisation to AT-HM funding. 

New Announcement

This urgent priority will now also apply to Home Modifications and Assistive Technology funding, including for people who have already been assessed and are waiting for this funding.
