Meet Alan: Equipment Warehouse Volunteer 

What do you enjoy most about volunteering in the Equipment Warehouse? 

They are a great team. Very welcoming and very dedicated.

What motivated you to volunteer in this role? 

My mother-in-law died from MND about 14 years ago. I recently retried and this was a way of honouring her memory.  I volunteered for the specific warehouse role as it seemed the best fit for me from the various roles on offer.

What have been some of your highlights or favourite moments as an Equipment Warehouse volunteer?

Just the camaraderie of the staff and being able to chat to the clients whilst the wonderful Naeem or Jake are setting up the equipment. I think it helps having experienced the loss of a loved one due to MND.

Is there a particular task or activity you enjoy the most? 

It's great going out in the truck and meeting people at different stages of their MND journey.

What keeps you coming back to volunteer with the Equipment Warehouse team? 

It gets me out of the house. Fridays always seems to go to the north of the city which I don't know well so I am experiencing new suburbs.  Also, I planted some MND blue cornflower seeds in the nature strip outside the warehouse, and I committed to watching them grow.

What skills or experiences have you gained through volunteering in this role? 

Mostly just using exisiting skills but I had to help my daughter move last week and I am much better at loading a truck since being with MND Victoria.

Is there anything else you would like to share about your volunteering experience? 

I really enjoy the role and the people.
