Annual Quality Survey 2024 Results

November 07, 2024

Summary of Findings

Thank you to the many individuals who contributed to MND Victoria’s Annual Quality Survey which was distributed in August / September and helps guide quality improvement initiatives and service development.

580 surveys were distributed across Victoria and Tasmania, with a total of 190 responses received (32.8%). Most respondents indicated they were living with MND or Kennedy’s Disease (over 70% in both states), with just over two-thirds (66.8%) of respondents in Victoria being aged over 65, whilst conversely in Tasmania, nearly two-thirds (60%) were aged under 65.

Encouragingly, satisfaction with MND Victoria Services was generally rated high to very high, with the majority of respondents indicating they would likely recommend MND Victoria services to others.

Barriers or service challenges that were highlighted included:
  • geographical barriers impacting service options (eg. volunteer availability, travel implications, MND clinic access)
  • inequity of service provision between those over and under 65 years
  • unfamiliarity with carer and volunteer support options
  • frustration surrounding the perceived lack of collaboration between different MND organisations.
As a result of the survey feedback, key recommendations for consideration include:
  1. A need for greater clarification, awareness and access of Volunteer Program and Carer Support Program.
  2. To ensure the education program retains relevancy, accessibility, practicality of information and broadens opportunities to re-visit learning needs over time.
  3. To explore opportunities for peer support amongst those with lived experience of MND (online and face-to-face).
  4. To review processes for communicating support plans (where relevant) and establishing realistic expectations surrounding regularity of client check-ins.
  5. To communicate advocacy work surrounding equity of funding and collaborations amongst MND organisations with the MND community.
  6. To continue advocacy for service accessibility in regional areas through exploring online alternatives, travel support, regional volunteer training, health professional education, local peer-support opportunities, community events or collaborations towards alternative clinic models.

MND Victoria is thankful for the community’s valuable insights through their completion of the Annual Quality Survey and our team is busy reviewing the recommendations and incorporating suggestions to maximise our impact. Whilst the survey is now closed, feedback is always welcomed and can be provided via the link below.
