Accessing Assistive Technology through the Support At Home Program

February 2026

Introducing a trial approach to Assistive Technology funding

From 1 March 2026, MND Victoria is introducing a trial approach to how Assistive Technology (AT) funding is accessed for equipment provided through our Equipment Service.

Under this approach, we will access Support at Home (SaH) Assistive Technology funding for equipment supplied through our service — similar to how we currently access funding for people who have NDIS plans. It is an important step in ensuring this vital service remains sustainable and available to people living with MND into the future.

Why are we making this change?

Our Equipment Service plays a critical role in supporting people living with MND by providing timely access to essential equipment. As government funding models evolve, particularly with the introduction of SaH, we need to adapt our approach to ensure we can continue delivering high-quality, responsive support to everyone that needs it.

What does this mean for you?

If you start receiving Support at Home (SaH) High Tier Assistive Technology (AT) funding after 1 March 2026:

  • Equipment supplied through our library will be funded through your available Support at Home – Assistive Technology budget.
  • If you already have equipment on loan from us that was previously provided at no cost, your MND Advisor will discuss how this may now be funded through your SaH Assistive Technology funding.

Importantly, we are committed to ensuring you receive equipment when you need it.

If your therapist recommends equipment before your SaH AT funding is available, we will continue to provide equipment from our library at no cost until your funding is allocated.

Your MND Advisor will work closely with you to guide you through this process.

Our commitment to you

We understand that changes to funding arrangements can raise questions. Our priority remains the same: supporting people living with motor neurone disease to access the equipment they need, when they need it.

We are committed to clear communication and ongoing support throughout this transition. We will continue to provide information as the transition progresses, and are available to answer questions or discuss what this may mean in individual circumstances.

This trial is designed to:

  • support the long-term sustainability of our Equipment Service
  • align with evolving aged care and funding arrangements
  • continue timely and appropriate access to essential equipment.

Further information will be shared on our website in the coming weeks and directly with eligible clients. Our commitment to providing high-quality, responsive, and compassionate equipment support remains unchanged.
