In early 2023, Karen’s world was turned upside down with a cruel diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease. It was through this courageous battle that we all learnt how strong she was - her mental toughness was amazing. The strength she demonstrated and the determination to face her diagnosis head on was a testament to her character.

Karen was born in January 1975 and sadly passed away in February 2024, less than 12 months from diagnosis. We not only mourn the loss of Karen as a friend and work colleague, but also the loss of a wife to Dean, mother to Mitchell and Brayden, daughter to Sharon and Frank, sister and sister-in-law to Luke and Shannon, and aunty to Maia and Madden.

Karen’s family meant the world to her. Dean was the love of her life and her boys her pride and joy. Words cannot express how heartbroken they must be, but it is the memories that will never fade; the memories that cannot be taken away.

What brought comfort to Karen in her final days was knowing that she was able to donate her organs, a selfless act that demonstrated her kindness and passion to help others. Life dealt her the unfair card, but in the end, she threw it back and offered compassion and a fresh opportunity to four people. She provided these recipients with a life-changing gift, something that has changed their lives for the better.

MND Victoria provided invaluable support, services and facilities to Karen and her family. Your donation to this not-for-profit organisation will ensure they can continue their work assisting others living with MND.

Thank you for honouring Karen’s memory with your donation.
