Broaden your organisational understanding of Calvary Health Care Bethlehem and MND Victoria, and their important roles in supporting and caring for those impacted by MND. We’ll highlight what’s new and promising in MND research, showing how global efforts are shaping the future of care and translating scientific progress into meaningful outcomes

Masterclass 1: Complex Nutritional Management in MND: Innovations & Practical Approaches

Managing nutrition in MND presents unique challenges that require a tailored, patient centred and multidisciplinary approach. This interactive masterclass will focus on advanced nutritional strategies including managing progressive dysphagia and preventing malnutrition & dehydration. Participants will gain insights into creative ways to optimise nutrition, while respecting cultural & personal food preferences. The session will also highlight emerging approaches to blenderised tube feeding and practical ways to maximise oral intake.

Attendees will leave with a nutrition toolbox of strategies and resources to enhance quality of life, plus a preview of a new three-part package on evidence-based gastrostomy care, developed with Barwon Health and funded by FightMND.

Masterclass 2: Applied Upper Airway and Secretion Management in MND

Effective airway and secretion management is essential for comfort, safety, and quality of life in people living with MND. This clinically focused masterclass will provide strategies for managing complex respiratory and bulbar challenges. Participants will learn about multidisciplinary assessment of complex secretions, including approaches to support team decision-making when instrumental assessments are unavailable. The session will also cover airway clearance techniques, oral care considerations (including support for clients using non-invasive ventilation), and the resources and networks available to enhance care for those with complex secretions.

Masterclass 3: Supporting Dignity in Complex Aspects of MND Care

This hands‑on workshop is designed to equip health workers and supporting staff with tips and tricks in managing the complex aspects of MND care while keeping comfort and dignity at the centre. The session will be run by a specialist nurse from our Statewide MND Clinic and an experienced Occupational Therapist, to take attendees through practical strategies to support with managing continence, toileting and intimate care, considerations for intimacy and sexuality and bed-based care considerations.

Facilitated Panel: Finding the Way Through: Guidance in Complex MND Care

This facilitated Q&A session will explore the complexities of MND care, highlighting practical guidance when things get challenging. Experts, people living with MND, carers and MND Advisors will share insights, strategies, and lived experience to help navigate difficult decisions and provide support across the spectrum of care.
